  • Meet Alyssa Unruh!

Alyssa is a senior from Glendale, Oregon majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies with her concentrations in Psychology, Biology, and Bible & Theology. On campus, Alyssa partners with an affiliated campus college ministry group to encourage and equip her peers to grow in their faith. You can also find her playing Super Smash Bros. on the Bushnell Beacons Esports team.

Alyssa's hobbies include drawing, sewing, gaming, dancing, and going on adventures. A fun fact about her is that she placed her faith in Jesus shortly after first attending Bushnell after being inspired by an event where several Olympic Medalists visited Eugene to share how Jesus changed their lives.

Alyssa was brought to Bushnell because she had teachers that are alumni who helped her through her toughest moments in school, and combined with the fact that Bushnell is a Christian institution, this influenced her to make the choice to attend our University. She has since found a very strong community that supports and uplifts her, which is one of Alyssa's favorite things about attending Bushnell.

"Bushnell has a lot in store for you - there are so many kinds of fun events to attend! College is a short time, but an equally memorable and important one where you start making your own decisions. These choices that you make - not only the events you attend, but the classes you take, and the people you surround yourself with - will affect your life. I highly encourage any new student to join a small group. I have many friends that are small group leaders, and I know that they are people that deeply love and care, who have had their lives touched with that same love and care from Jesus. This is the love that changes lives, and it's waiting for you - you just have to ask for it."

  • For a trio of Bushnell students, a spring semester internship at Kernutt Stokes has provided an irreplaceable experience.

Three Bushnell seniors, Kyle Foss, Logan Gant, and Jackson Gielish, have been gaining hands-on experience through their internship at Kernutt Stokes, a leading accounting and consulting firm based in Eugene, Oregon.

With all three students pursuing majors in accounting, the internship offered an essential transition from theory to practice. “It was a great opportunity to take what I’m learning in the classroom and apply it in a real-world setting,” stated Kyle. “The expectations in a workplace are very different, and this experience is helping me bridge that gap.”

With the firm offering a wide range of financial solutions, including auditing and tax planning, the trio got experience working with many new systems and expectations that presented challenges along the way. “Patience and trial-and-error are key,” Gielish says. “You get something wrong, ask for help, then try again while improving along the way.”

Reflecting on their journey, the students also emphasized the importance of perseverance and self-confidence. “Starting something new, whether it’s an internship, a hobby, or even a relationship with God, can be intimidating,” said Logan. “But once you push through that initial discomfort, you start to grow, and before you know it, you’re running.”

Great job, Kyle, Logan, and Jackson! 👏
