Slifka Breaks Career Scoring Record in Final Game

LA GRANDE, Ore.– Aspen Slifka broke Bushnell’s all-time scoring record in the final game of her career as the Beacons fell to Eastern Oregon, 83-62, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference Quarterfinal game.

Slifka wraps up an incredible career with 1,843 points, passing Morgan McKinney (1,830) for the top spot on the all-time scoring list. The senior averaged 18.9 points per game, a single-season Bushnell record and her 547 points this year are the second-most in a single season, behind only McKinney (584).

Bushnell, the five-seed in the tournament, got behind early, trailing 54-25 at the break, a 29-point halftime deficit. The Beacons outscored the Mountaineers 37-29 in the second half but were unable to get any closer than 18 points.

Beverly Slater posted a dominant performance for Eastern Oregon, scoring 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting with 19 rebounds. Brie Holecek also finished with a double-double, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds. Bayley Brennan shot 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, totaling 18 points, while Kelsie Siegner added 12 points off the bench and eight rebounds.

Eastern shot 47.8% from the floor, including 30.8% (8-26) from three-point range and made 9-of-10 at the free throw line. The Mounties finished with a 50-33 advantage in rebounds.

Slifka had her third-straight 22-point game to lead the Beacons in scoring. Libby Mathis added to her single-season record for double-doubles, posting her 13^th of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Aly Mirabile wrapped up her career with a 10-point game and Ayden Krupke finished with eight points and seven boards.

Bushnell finished 36.1% from the field, including 33.3% (5-15) from deep and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line. The Beacons had just five turnovers.

The Beacons finish the 2023-24 season with a 16-13 overall record.
