About Gene

Gene De Young serves as Bushnell University’s Vice President for Finance and Administration / Chief Financial Officer. He provides strategic leadership for the University’s financial stewardship, administrative operations, institutional planning, and resource management in support of Bushnell’s Christ-centered mission. 

Before entering private higher education, he held positions in real estate development, investment management, and consulting firms. He began his higher-education career at William Jessup University in 2003, where he served in a senior finance and administration role with responsibilities similar to his current position. 

Gene joined Bushnell University in 2013 and provides leadership in financial planning, budgeting, accounting and financial operations, facilities and infrastructure planning, technology, and other administrative services. He works with University leadership, faculty, staff, and external partners to ensure that institutional resources and systems effectively support students, employees, and the University’s long-term sustainability. 

Gene is married to Karen. Together, they enjoy time with their three married children, their spouses, and ten grandchildren.
