EUGENE, Ore. — Bushnell University has been ranked No. 4 in Oregon in CounselingPsychology.org’s 2027 counseling-related program rankings, with the University’s Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling Certificate featured in the ranking profile.
CounselingPsychology.org provides information about counseling, family therapy, and psychology degree programs and career pathways for prospective students. Its Oregon rankings include programs that prepare students for professional practice in areas such as clinical mental health counseling, school counseling and marriage and family therapy.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty, students, alumni and community partners who support counselor preparation at Bushnell,” said Dr. Marilyn Montgomery, program director and professor of clinical mental health counseling. “Our faculty have long worked together to provide strong professional preparation while helping students develop the knowledge, clinical skills, and compassion needed to serve others well.”
Bushnell’s 60-credit Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling prepares students for professional practice as culturally responsive, evidence-based mental health counselors. Delivered through a hybrid cohort model, the 28-month program combines rigorous course work with individualized faculty mentorship and more than 700 hours of supervised clinical training through Bushnell’s Counseling Clinic and approved community placements. The program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and prepares graduates to meet the academic requirements to become a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon.
Also featured in the ranking, Bushnell’s School Counseling Certificate provides a 33-credit hybrid pathway for professionals who already hold a qualifying graduate degree and want to pursue school counseling credentials in Oregon. Through graduate course work, a supervised teaching practicum and 600 hours of school counseling internships in elementary and secondary settings, students develop the practical skills needed to support students’ academic, career, social and emotional development while collaborating with educators, families and communities.
“This recognition reflects the strong preparation and support our students receive as they pursue school counseling credentials,” said Ray Ricks, M.Ed., program director of the School of Education and assistant professor of education. “Our goal is to prepare school counselors who are equipped to serve students with skill, compassion and a commitment to their academic, social and emotional well-being.”
Together, the programs featured in the ranking reflect Bushnell’s broader commitment to preparing counseling professionals through strong academic preparation, hands-on experience, professional mentorship and a commitment to compassionate service.
